Following a successful ballot result in February this year, the bills for the One Chelmsford BID levy will be sent out on Friday 1st June to nearly 500 businesses in Chelmsford City Centre.
In February 2018, Chelmsford’s ballot about whether to set up a Business Improvement District (BID) delivered a resounding YES vote. Following this, the One Chelmsford BID is now running, having officially launched on 1st April. In its first year, it will be aiming to deliver projects within the three main strands of its business plan:
we are already exploring improvements to the rivers, supporting a new Chelmsford Arts and Cultural Festival this summer, planning for a joint procurement scheme to save businesses money and teaming up with the Council to provide an improved Christmas illumination scheme for 2018 onwards.
You can see our full plans for the five years here.
The bills will cover the period from 1st April 2018 to 31st March 2019 and are calculated by applying a multiplier to a premises’ rateable value. This multiplier is 1.5% or, for premises in the main serviced areas of High Chelmer, The Meadows and Bond Street, and for those that already pay the Late Night Levy, 1.4%. Businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or higher will pay the levy, raising in total over £650,000 every year – although the smallest will pay just £225. This money will be used by the BID to deliver the business plan voted on by businesses.
