One Chelmsford is proud to announce that it is supporting the inaugural year of the Chelmsford Arts and Cultural Festival. Read on to see how you can get involved.
The new festival is drawing inspiration from events such as Edinburgh Fringe and aiming to create a series of fun and inclusive events across the space of a week from 23rd June. It will be a celebration of creativity, industry and the heritage of Chelmsford. Reimagining the old Chelmsford Carnival, the week will launch with a colourful parade from the Parkway end of the High Street, and close just over a week later with the popular dragon boat race on Sunday 1st July. In between there will be street performers, aerial circus acts, pop-up markets, workshops, music, open mic, art and storytelling across the city centre.
Sue Patel, Manager of The Meadows and new Chair of One Chelmsford’s ‘Destination Chelmsford’ sub-group, said “this is really great for Chelmsford so we want to help make sure it succeeds”. One Chelmsford has held meetings with Chelmsford City Council and Essex County Council and organised a package of sponsorship to help support the event.
In addition, BID members are volunteering staff to spend time acting as on-street ambassadors during the event. John Lewis announced that four members of their staff would be volunteering during the event as part of their policy of encouraging staff to take part in community or charity activities. Blue Sky Printing in The Meadows has followed suit, as has Debenhams.
One Chelmsford is looking for more members to volunteer staff time during this event to help make it a success. Please get in touch with email@example.com to express an interest and find out how you can promote yourself.
