Apply for retail, hospitality and leisure funding

Businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors are to receive a one-off grant worth up to £9,000, the Chancellor announced on 5 January.

In Essex, you will be apply to apply for this grant through your district, borough or city council. We will share more information when application routes are open.

The one-off top-ups will be granted to closed businesses as follows:

  • £4,000 for businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or under
  • £6,000 for businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000
  • £9,000 for businesses with a rateable value of over £51,000
  • any business which is legally required to close, and which cannot operate effectively remotely, is eligible for a grant.

New payments to help employees self-isolate

More people in Essex are now eligible for a £500 one-off payment if they need to self-isolate and cannot work from home.

Essex County Council has set aside £3million funding to give more people self-isolation support. It is available to those who are not eligible for the government support payment.

If someone in your workforce tests positive, this new payment will help give them financial security for the 10 day self-isolation period.

Anyone who lives or works in Essex can book a free fast Covid-19 test at a local centre.

Please let your employees know they might be eligible for the Essex Test and Trace Support Payment if they test positive for Covid-19.

 

 

Apply for a Covid-19 support grant

You can apply for the following schemes through your district, borough or city council. They use government funding to define eligibility and distribute funding at a local level.

Essex Business Adaptation Grant Scheme

The Business Adaptation Grant Scheme can help you make adaptations to your premises and operations during the coronavirus pandemic. 

Businesses have utilised this funding to  make their premises more Covid-secure. Examples include:

  • sanitising stations
  • screens and signage
  • adding booths or partitioned areas in premises
  • taxi drivers installing chip-and-pin card machines and screens
  • building websites to provide services, ordering or online sales

Localised and Additional Restrictions Support Grants

If you have been severely impacted or forced to close due to Covid-19 restrictions, you may be eligible for a grant through the Localised or Additional Restrictions schemes. These schemes aim to help businesses that aren't eligible for other government funding.

Christmas Support Payment for Wet-led Pubs

The Christmas Support Payment for wet-led pubs supports pubs that predominantly serve alcohol rather than provide food and were severely impacted over the festive season due to temporary local restrictions.

Eligible businesses may be entitled to a one-off cash grant of £1,000 from their local council. The deadline for applications has been extended to 28 February 2021.
